The SEED program is today the main practice-training program of the ASEAN Learning Network. This is now presented as an intercultural and transformational leadership program implemented through the instrumentality of developing social enterprises and related projects plans to achieve mind-set changes among villagers so that they may be empowered to solve their own problems and develop and manage their village businesses and other undertakings, leading eventually to enterprise and sustainable economic development for the village community. It has also been used as an effective entrepreneurship program where students learn entrepreneurship through mind-set change and contextual learning on-site through practice in entrepreneurial innovation and enterprise development at the SEED village.

Today, the SEED program, together with its varied preparatory and follow-up ancillary programs and initiatives, as well as its different variants of the program with different applications to different contexts and needs of different communities and locations, including the Mini-SEED programs to develop greenfield rural areas (new village development) of the Prince of Songkla University in Thailand and the Lasallian SEED Program for urban community development of the De La Salle University in the Philippines, has been successfully implemented for more than 22 times in the ASEAN region. Member institutions which have successfully implemented the SEED program also include the ITB, Parahyangan Catholic University, the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, the ARC in St Gallen and the San Beda College.

We look forward to move beyond the SEED program to develop and launch socially responsible university education curricula and programs in specific study areas. Like in our successful SEED programs, students within such a specific degree program may achieve superior understanding of their theoretical knowledge (learnt in the class room and through their readings) experientially, through socially responsible practice (such as at poor villages in the SEED program) which would contribute toward the well-being of the local people on the learning site (such as incomes creation for poor villagers and economic development at the SEED village and/or region). Since last year, the ASEAN Learning Network has 16 institutional members in the ASEAN region (excluding the Asia Research Centre) which have also agreed on a new Constitution (Articles of Association) and for the organization to be based in Switzerland.
