SOCIAL ENTERPRISE FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT [SEED]

The SEED program is today the main practice-training program of the ASEAN Learning Network. This is now presented as an intercultural and transformational leadership program implemented through the instrumentality of developing social enterprises and related projects plans to achieve mind-set changes among villagers so that they may be empowered to solve their own problems and develop and manage their village businesses and other undertakings, leading eventually to enterprise and sustainable economic development for the village community. It has also been used as an effective entrepreneurship program where students learn entrepreneurship through mind-set change and contextual learning on-site through practice in entrepreneurial innovation and enterprise development at the SEED village.

Today, the SEED program, together with its varied preparatory and follow-up ancillary programs and initiatives, as well as its different variants of the program with different applications to different contexts and needs of different communities and locations, including the Mini-SEED programs to develop greenfield rural areas (new village development) of the Prince of Songkla University in Thailand and the Lasallian SEED Program for urban community development of the De La Salle University in the Philippines, has been successfully implemented for more than 22 times in the ASEAN region. Member institutions which have successfully implemented the SEED program also include the ITB, Parahyangan Catholic University, the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, the ARC in St Gallen, the San Beda College and Prince of Songkla University.
